Dallas riders are top finishers in Tour de Cypress long ride division

Tour de Cypress 2001Dallas riders were top finishers in all three long ride divisions of the 2010 Tour de Cypress bike ride on Saturday, April 17.
A total 114 riders registered for the event. In each of the divisions individually, 34 riders registered for the 100K ride, 34 started the 45 mile ride, 27were in the 30 mile ride and 20 began the 10 mile ride.


The four rides began minutes apart, with a partial new route for the 100 kilimeter riders.
Bryan Fawley and Stephen Sepulveda, both of Dallas, finished first and second in the 100K ride. They returned to the square less than a bicycle length apart after completing the course in two hours and 42 minutes, and two hours and 45 minutes, respectively. Mr. Fawley, actually started almost three minutes later than the group.
Third in the 100 K was Josh Jordan of Mount Vernon, who finished in three hours and five minutes. The first female to complete the entire course was Sarah Wells of Dallas. She completed the ride in 3:13:43.
Mark Fuqua and Russell Birk, both of Dallas were the first two to finish the 45 mile ride. They finished in two hours and 39 minutes.
Janice Dily and J. D. Meler, both of Dallas, were first and second in the 30 mile ride. They finished in an hour and 54 minutes.
Steven Stocz of Grapevine was the first to finish the 10 mile ride. He rolled back to the downtown plaza about 40 minutes after the start.
“All the riders liked the routes we used this year and appreciated all the support they received from volunteers along their ride,” Pat Wright, coordinator for the event, said.
Rotarians provided lunch and beverages to riders and made them available to the public for purchase on Saturday. Approximately 200 hamburgers were served.
Rotarians honored local emergency services personnel and their families, along with early rider arrivals with a barbecue dinner at the Franklin County Airport Community Hall Friday, April, 16. Door prizes were awarded during the dinner.
The first Tour de Cypress event was in 2005 and attracted 112 riders. In 2006, 90 participated. The 2007 ride was hampered by freezing temperatures and only 64 brave souls tackled the course. Ridership went back up in 2008 with 94 entries and 137 in 2009, despite four inches of rainfall during the event.
